Are there dangers in Chinchilla Water?

Another common subject of discussion among chinchlla owners is water. Is tap water safe for the chinchilla?

There's not a simple answer. Most tap water includes many additives that may be harmful to chinchillas, including chlorine and fluoride (these are nasty chemicals for humans, too!)

If you are off the grid and have well water, make sure you have your water tested regularly for parasites and contaminants.

With any water problems you should use filtered or distilled water. You may do this already for yourselves, so show your chinchillas (who are not as strong as you!) the same courtesy.
